Today, I want to talk to you about the Grade 12 Ethiopian National University Entrance Examination. Many of you are preparing for this important exam, but there is not much clear information available online.
Unlike other countries, it’s hard to find helpful resources or guidance about this exam. So, in this blog, my goal is to help you understand what to expect and how to prepare properly. I hope this will give you more confidence and reduce your stress.
Lately, this exam is being offered in two ways: computer-based and paper-based. If you are taking the paper-based exam, you will go to a university. But if you are taking the computer-based exam, you can go to a nearby center. Whichever format you’re taking, this guide is for you.
1. Check Your Exam Information Early
Before anything else, visit the Ministry of Education website. You will need to:
- Log in using your admission number.
- Check your exam date, time, and location.
- Download or print your admission card.
- Don’t wait until the last minute—check this as early as possible. Make sure all the information is correct and keep a copy of your admission card.

2. Understand the Computer-Based Exam
If your exam is on a computer, make sure you know how to:
Log in to the exam system.
Select answers and submit them.
Mark questions to review later.
Go back and change answers if needed.

Practice using a computer if you are not familiar with it. Ask your teachers or friends to help you. Knowing how the system works will save time and help you stay calm during the exam.
3. Take the Official Mock Test Seriously
The Ministry of Education provides a mock exam online.
Visit: examinfo.moe.gov.et
Log in with your admission number.
Check the mock test schedule.
Take the exam as if it’s real.

This is very important! The mock test will show you the real format, help you reduce anxiety, and improve your confidence. Don’t ignore it. Take it early, because the system may be slow when many students try to access it at the same time.
4. Know the Exam Structure and Grading System
The exam is mostly multiple-choice questions. Subjects include:
- English
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Other subjects based on your stream

To pass, you usually need at least 50%, but for competitive fields (like medicine or engineering), you need a very high score.
What you should do:
- Study past questions.
- Identify topics that appear frequently.
- Focus on important chapters.
5. Use the Right Materials and Practice Questions
There are many books and websites, but don’t try to read everything. Be smart:
- Focus on doing practice questions.
- Learn how to answer quickly and correctly.
- Use past national exams to practice.
- Study in two ways: reading + doing questions.
- Don’t waste time on random materials. Just focus on what matters most.
6. Prepare for Medical or Emergency Needs
Some students have health issues (like diabetes or heart conditions). Last year, some students were not allowed to bring their medicine, and this led to serious problems.

Here’s what you should do:
- Get a medical certificate from a doctor or health center.
- Inform the Ministry of Education or the exam center in advance.
- Pack your medicines properly.
- Keep all documents that prove your medical need.
- Do not ignore this step. Your health is more important than the exam.
7. Manage Stress and Take Care of Yourself
Traveling to a new place, staying with strangers, and taking a big exam can be stressful. Here are tips:
- Prepare early, not at the last minute.
- Don’t stay up all night studying. Sleep well.
- Eat the food available at the university, even if it’s not perfect.
- Avoid last-minute cramming.
Practice simple stress relief, like deep breathing:
- Breathe in for 6 seconds
- Hold for 6 seconds
- Breathe out slowly for 6 seconds

Avoid listening to too many rumors or scary information from others. Stay calm and focused on your plan.
